Reports just reaching us from Port Harcourt that security operatives had made an attempt to arrest the former acting Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission [NDDC] Joy Nunieh at her home.
Nunieh was supposed to appear before the national assembly committee probing the finances of the commission in Abuja.
In a phone call to ARISE TV. Nunieh claimed the security operatives numbering over 30 armed men had blocked the entrance of her house and asked her to open the door.
She claimed to have asked them why they were in her house and they said she was under arrest, but did not say what the arrest was for. Nunieh said they had no warrant and they made attempts to break into her house.
The drama however took another twist as the Governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike came to her rescue with his personal security Aids.
“I got a call from Sen. Magnus Abe, who told me he had called the commissioner of police and that there was no order from him for my arrest. I called my Governor who told me he will come after he has had a shower.
The governor is a man, i don’t just know how to thank him. I am now safe in governors lodge in port harcourt” Nunuih said.
The unending drama over the probe of the NDDC has been on for a few weeks after the national assembly committee got revelations of corruption allegations by members and former members of staff of the NDDC.
Nunuih told the press after submitting her written statements to the committee alleging the Minister of Niger Delta Godswill Akpabio of corruption.
She was supposed to appear before the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday to respond to questions from the lawmakers probing the commission.
It is however obvious she will not appear before the committee, as she is still in Government house Port Harcourt.
