Judge Who Annulled “June 12” dies of Coronavirus complications

Former Chief justice of the Federal Capital Territory , Justice Dahiru Saleh is dead. He died on Thursday from suspected Coronavirus complications in Azara, Bauchi State.

The late former justice who was buried according to Islamic rights on Thursday was famous for annulling the June 12, 1993 elections that was won by Billionaire Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

MKO, as Abiola was popularly called ,won the June 1993 Presidential election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party which defeated the candidate of the National Republican Conversation, Bashir Tofa.

The election Which was held under the military regime of Gen.Ibrahim Babangida was annulled after an earlier judgment by justice Bassey Ikpeme ,midnight June 11,1993, which held that the election should not take place.

In an interview in June 2016, Justice Salah took responsibility for annulling the election, stating that Abiola should have appealed the earlier judgment by Justice Bassey.

MKO Abiola died on July 7, 1998 while still in detention after he was arrested by the military regime of late General Sani for declaring himself winner of that election.
